There are several stars battling with chronic diseases including your favourite ones. You might never know until they choose to make it public. Below are ten celebrities who are battling with different chronic diseases.

Lil Wayne And His Chronic Disease

Lil Wayne made his health condition known to the public in 2013. The rapper revealed that he has epilepsy. Epilepsy also known as seizure disorder is a disorder where nerve cell activity in the brain is disturbed causing seizures. He had his first seizure when he was young but he never took it seriously, same as his mum. His mum thought it was a fainting spell. The next attack came in his adulthood. In March, 2013, it became so critical that he had to be admitted into the Intensive Care Unit. His heart rate also dropped to about 30%. The next month, he was taken to the hospital again after another attack.

The rapper has had seizures several times even on planes. In June 2016, he had a seizure and another followed the next month just few minutes before he was to come on stage at the TAO nightclub in Las Vegas, Nevada. In 2017, the 39year old rapper was found unconscious in his hotel room and was immediately taken to the ICU. Speaking about it, the rapper stated that lack of sleep, dehydration, stress and overworking could lead to his seizures and not codeine people thought was the cause.

The 29year old actress and singer is battling with Lupus.

Lupus is an autoimmune disease that can cause joint pain, fever, skin rashes and organ damage. It could also lead to destruction of kidney, brain spine and lung tissue. One of the main causes of death amongst Lupus patients is kidney failure. In 2015, Selena Gomez revealed this to her fans. According to the actress, she found out in 2013 and immediately underwent chemotherapy and that was why she cancelled her concerts that year. In 2016, the singer announced she will be taking a break from her career as a result of anxiety, panic attack and depression lupus causes. It got to a point she needed a kidney transplant and her friend and fellow actress, Francia Raisa donated one of her kidneys for Selena.

While fans may see her diagnosis of bipolar disorder in 2018 as an unfortunate thing, Selena sees it as a relief to her because according to her, it explains her struggles.

Nicholas Scott Cannon is an American comedian, actor and TV presenter. He announced that in January 2012 he was diagnosed of Lupus. Prior to that year, he had been experiencing fatigue and swelling in his knees but he brushed it off as a normal occurrence until he encountered breathing difficulty and pain in his kidney. When he sought for medical help he got to know it was actually Lupus. The 41year old was hospitalized in 2016 due to complications from the disease.

Pete Davidson at the age of 17, started suffering from Crohn’s disease, a chronic disease that causes the digestive tract to become inflamed, though not deadly but can lead to complications which are life threatening .The comedian began using medical marijuana as pain reliever and then, in 2016 after going to the rehab to wean himself off drugs and stabilize his mental health, the actor was diagnosed of Borderline Personality Disorder(BPD).

NIH explained BPD as a mental illness marked by ongoing pattern of vanishing mood, self image and behaviour. The disease begins in one’s late teens or early 20s and might make one harm his or herself.

The model admitted that she got Psoriasis from her mum.

It is an autoimmune disease that causes red scaly patterns to develop on the skin. Erythrodermic and Pustular Von Zumbusch are the two most dangerous part of the disease. They are rare but life threatening. At 25, Kim had her first psoriasis flare and it came back in her 30s.

The popular tennis player was diagnosed of Sjögren’s syndrome in 2011. The symptoms started in 2004 and in 2011, she pulled out of the U.S open when fatigue from the disease became unbearable. Symptoms are fatigue, dry mouth or eyes, joint pains, etc.
