The upcoming Lagos State governorship election has been generating buzz in Nigeria, with various candidates and parties campaigning for support from the electorate. One of the gubernatorial candidates, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, who is popularly known as GRV, recently visited the mansion of the musical duo, PSquare, consisting of Paul and Peter Okoye.

It is no secret that PSquare has been actively campaigning for the Labour Party, which GRV represents, during the presidential election and now the governorship election. The musical duo has been vocal about their support for GRV and their desire to see him emerge as the next governor of Lagos State.

During GRV’s visit to PSquare’s exquisite home, the musicians welcomed him and referred to him as the incoming governor of Lagos State. They then urged him to say a few words, to which GRV chanted the viral ‘Ellu P’ jingle and urged Lagosians to come out in mass and vote for a new Lagos come Saturday, 18th March 2023.

Peter Okoye shared the video of the visit on his social media page, expressing his support for GRV and his party. In his post, he wrote, “We are tired of PDAPC!👎🏾 We are Voting massively for Eluu P from Top to Bottom come this Saturday! LP LP LP LP LP✊🏾🇳🇬 WE ARE OBIDIENT👌🏾💯Cc @grvlagos”.

The visit of GRV to PSquare’s home and the subsequent endorsement by the musical duo have generated mixed reactions from Nigerians. While some have praised the musicians for using their platform to promote a candidate and party they believe in, others have criticized them for allegedly accepting money from politicians to sway their fans’ votes.

It is not the first time that Nigerian musicians have been involved in politics, as many artists have used their music and influence to campaign for candidates and parties they support. However, there is a growing concern that musicians and celebrities are being used as pawns by politicians to sway public opinion in their favor.
Regardless of the controversy surrounding the visit, the Lagos State governorship election is set to take place on Saturday, 18th March 2023, and Nigerians will have the opportunity to exercise their democratic right to vote for the candidate of their choice. It remains to be seen whether GRV and the Labour Party will emerge victorious, but one thing is certain: the outcome of the election will have a significant impact on the future of Lagos State and Nigeria as a whole.
