Lady imprisoned for 14yrs for k!lling her maid with the help of her husband
On Thursday, the 7th of July Lagos State High Court in on sentenced a couple identified as Fortune and Steve Nwankwo, to 16 years and 2 years imprisonment respectively for the murder of their 19-year-old maid, Joy Adole.
They were both accused of killing Adole at their home in Bariga, Lagos on the 20th of April, 2020.
Despite denying the accusation, claiming that Adole has committed suic!de by hanging they were still charged with murder.
Oyindamola Ogala, the justice in charge of the case found them guilty of murder. While presenting judgment in suit no ID/13178C/20, Justice Ogala revealed that the prosecution had proven the couple guilty of murder, conspiracy, an attempt to prevent justice, misconduct regarding to the death of their maid at their residence, and destruction of evidence.
The court found Stephen guilty of conspiracy, attempt to prevent justice, misconduct, and accessory to a murderer.
The judge also reveal that they were able to convict them based on the credible statements from eyewitnesses who revealed the fact that the housemaid died as a result of the injuries she sustained beating by Fortune.
One of the witnesses said:
“The first defendant beat the deceased which led her to her de@th as she was sick prior to the incident.
The defendants were also charged with negligence as they did not inform or call the deceased’s family when they learned that she had died in the morning but instead waited till noon when the second defendant called the deceased’s sister to ask for her full name and other personal information so that he could put her in the morgue.
it was also revealed in the court that when Steve, found out that his wife had k!lled their maid while beatig her, he assisted her in tempering with the evidence, by h@nging the corpse with a rope.
