Super Eagles defender, William Troost-Ekong, has opened up concerning the musicians who inspire him.

Troost Ekong, while speaking with Watford’s official website on Black History Month stated that he is inspired by Afrobeat legend, Fela Anikulapo Kuti and Grammy award winner, Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy.

According to the centre back, both musicians are his favorite artists.

The former Udinese defender stated that he’s inspired by the messages in the songs of Burna Boy and he also appreciated his accomplishments.

“His music inspires me, maybe like a modern-day Fela because he also has very strong messages in his music and I love what he stands for. He has a great connection with the UK and coming from Nigerian heritage, he’s someone I can relate to.” he said.

On Fela, who is regarded as the father and the founder of Afrobeat, the Dutch-born defender said: “I love what he stands for, it’s individualism and also the great music he makes, all of his songs, the messages, the life lessons, so anyone who hasn’t heard Fela’s music I would definitely recommend it.”

It could be recalled that the Black History Month is a special month (October) that is preserved for appreciating the work of the people of color especially black people. It is also a medium to recognise their achievements in the society.
