The interviewer asked:

“Do you think that fair ladies privileges exist in Nigeria?”

Maria replied:

“I think it’s the opposite because when I came out from Bbnaija house and everyone was like oh she got in or people like her because she’s light skinned. That’s not a privilege for me, rather it’s an unfair evaluation of who i am. I desire to be liked for who I am, not because of my skin colour. On another note, it also plays both roles because I have also read comments that explained how worthy I was on screen and how my true personality manifested. This goes to show that it is beyond the complexion.”

“I believe that being light-skinned should not be a privilege whatsoever, what should be a privilege should be what you bring to whatever table you’re set at, fairness or beauty should not be why people should like you, it should be about your skill set, talent, work ethic, character and human relationship.”
