U.S. President Donald Trump Threatens to Cut Billions of Dollars in Federal Funding for Elon Musk’s Companies as They Feud Online

The strong partnership that once existed between former President Donald Trump and tech billionaire Elon Musk has dramatically fallen apart, culminating in a heated confrontation that has captured the attention of both political and business communities.

In a harsh post on Truth Social, Trump sharply criticized Musk, declaring:

When Elon Musk came to the White House asking me for help on all of his many subsidized projects… I could have said, ‘Drop to your knees and beg,’ and he would have done it.”

This outburst came in response to Musk’s fierce opposition to Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” a broad tax and spending proposal. Musk condemned the legislation as a “disgusting abomination,” pointing to its potential to increase the federal deficit by $2.4 trillion and eliminate electric vehicle tax credits.

In retaliation, Trump warned he might withdraw federal subsidies and contracts benefiting Musk’s companies, including SpaceX and Tesla. He accused Musk of having “Trump derangement syndrome,” implying that personal hostility was fueling Musk’s opposition.

Unfazed, Musk responded on social media, stating:

Without me, Trump would have lost the election… Such ingratitude.”

He further intensified the dispute by supporting calls for Trump’s impeachment, claiming that the administration withheld documents related to Jeffrey Epstein that could implicate the former president.

The consequences have been significant. Tesla’s stock dropped more than 14%, wiping out $152 billion in market value. Additionally, Musk’s resignation from the Department of Government Efficiency highlights the seriousness of the divide.

As this high-profile conflict continues, the future of Musk’s ventures and Trump’s political influence remains uncertain. What was once a powerful alliance now stands as a stark example of how quickly relationships can deteriorate in the unpredictable worlds of politics and business.
