In recent times, Nigeria has been grappling with several security challenges, ranging from kidnappings, terrorism, cultism, and political violence, among others. As the country prepares for its gubernatorial election, political tension has been rising in several regions, with some politicians resorting to inflammatory statements and actions that could further escalate the already tense situation.

One such incident occurred recently when the Chairman of the Lagos State Parks Management Committee, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, issued a threat to the Igbo community in Lagos. In a video that went viral on social media, MC Oluomo was seen warning Igbos not to vote for any party other than the All Progressives Congress (APC). He suggested that they should stay at home if they did not vote for the APC and implied that there could be consequences if they failed to comply with his directives.

The threat quickly sparked outrage among Nigerians, particularly the Igbo community, who felt targeted and threatened. Many people took to social media to express their concerns and demand that the relevant authorities take action to address the issue.

In response to the incident, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) issued a statement through its spokesperson, Adejobi Olumuyiwa. In his statement, Olumuyiwa described MC Oluomo’s threat as a joke, adding that nobody had the right to prevent Nigerians from exercising their democratic right to vote for the candidate of their choice. He assured Lagos residents that the police command had launched an investigation into the incident and urged them to go out and vote without fear of intimidation or harassment.

MC Oluomo Threats To A Woman [DETAILS]

Olumuyiwa also mentioned that MC Oluomo had denied making the threat and had stated that it was just a joke he made with a particular woman, Mama Chidinma, who was seen in the video. While some people may have accepted MC Oluomo’s explanation, others remain skeptical and believe that the incident could have more sinister implications.

The incident involving MC Oluomo highlights the need for Nigerian politicians to be mindful of their words and actions, particularly during electioneering periods. It is essential for them to promote peaceful and inclusive political participation and avoid making statements that could incite violence or discrimination against any particular group. The government and relevant authorities must also take swift action to address any incidents of political violence or intimidation to ensure a free, fair and peaceful election.
