U.S. President Donald Trump is reportedly weighing the possibility of granting a presidential pardon to music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, who is currently incarcerated in Brooklyn as he awaits sentencing in October.
Diddy, 55, was acquitted earlier this month of sex trafficking and racketeering charges but was convicted on two counts related to prostitution. He faces a potential sentence of up to 10 years in prison.
According to sources familiar with internal White House deliberations, the idea of a pardon has moved from informal discussion to what one insider described as “an actionable event.”
While Trump has yet to formally commit to the decision, he previously addressed the possibility in May, saying:
“Nobody’s asked, but I know people are thinking about it. I would certainly look at the facts. If I think somebody was mistreated, whether they like me or don’t like me it wouldn’t have any impact.”
Diddy, once a high-profile figure in both entertainment and political circles, now faces a different kind of scrutiny. Legal analysts remain divided over the severity and fairness of his conviction, especially considering he was cleared of the more serious federal charges.
John Koufos, an attorney reportedly in contact with members of Trump’s pardon advisory group, said the case might fit Trump’s broader criticism of “overcriminalization” and “weaponization” of the justice system.
“Had he been convicted of RICO, you’d be looking at something different,” Koufos explained. “There’s nothing particularly sympathetic here.”
Still, allies from Trump’s previous clemency efforts, including Alice Marie Johnson — the former federal prisoner Trump famously pardoned in 2018 — are believed to be part of ongoing discussions. Johnson, along with Trump’s pardon attorney Ed Martin, may play key roles in shaping the final decision.
However, not everyone supports the idea. Rapper 50 Cent strongly opposed any potential clemency and criticized Diddy for allegedly disrespecting Trump.
“Donald doesn’t take well to disrespect,” 50 Cent wrote on social media. “There is no room for distraction. He would consider pardoning anyone who was being mistreated — not Puffy Daddy.”
As October approaches, pressure continues to build on both sides as political, legal, and cultural figures weigh in on what could become another controversial Trump-era pardon.
