Mega superstar and billionaire mogul Rihanna has reportedly lost a massive $36 million following the collapse of her luxury fashion label, Fenty, launched in partnership with French luxury powerhouse Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessy (LVMH).
According to fresh financial filings from her UK-based company, Denim UK Holdings, the high-end fashion venture recorded huge losses before officially shutting down in 2021.
Rihanna, 37, made history in 2019 when she became the first Black woman to lead a brand under LVMH. Despite the groundbreaking achievement, the label struggled to stay profitable, with the COVID-19 pandemic disrupting her ability to oversee production in Europe.
Documents revealed that Rihanna invested about €29.9 million (roughly $34.8 million) through her company, while LVMH contributed a similar amount. The brand operated under the name Project Loud France, a tribute to her 2010 album Loud.
Although Fenty initially generated excitement, its luxury price tags alienated many of Rihanna’s fans. Items like a $1,000 denim jacket and an $810 corset dress were considered out of reach, especially compared to her more affordable and successful brands, Fenty Beauty and Savage X Fenty.
By 2021, Rihanna and LVMH jointly decided to close the fashion house and redirect their efforts toward her booming beauty and lingerie businesses.
In a joint statement, they said:
“LVMH and Rihanna reaffirm their ambition to concentrate on the growth and long-term development of the Fenty ecosystem, focusing on cosmetics, skincare, and lingerie.”
Though Fenty Fashion may have faltered, Rihanna’s influence in the global beauty and lifestyle industry remains unmatched — proving that even setbacks can’t dim her entrepreneurial brilliance.
