Twitter co-founder and Block CEO, Jack Dorsey, has introduced Bitchat, a new messaging platform designed to function without internet access.
The innovative app relies on Bluetooth Low Energy mesh networks, allowing users to send secure, peer-to-peer encrypted messages to nearby devices without needing cellular data or Wi-Fi.
Bitchat’s standout feature is its ability to operate entirely offline, making it ideal for communication in areas with poor or no internet coverage. As users move, their devices form local Bluetooth clusters, relaying messages from one user to another—effectively extending communication beyond the normal Bluetooth range.
All conversations are end-to-end encrypted, stored locally, and automatically deleted after a brief period, reinforcing the app’s strong emphasis on privacy and data security. Even offline users receive pending messages once they reconnect to a nearby cluster.
With Bitchat, Dorsey continues to push the boundaries of decentralized communication, offering a timely alternative for users in remote or restricted environments.
