Nigeria has lost a music icon. Mike Ejeagha, fondly called Gentleman Mike, has died at the age of 95. He passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, in Enugu, where he lived most of his life.

Mike Ejeagha was not just a singer, he was a storyteller, a cultural teacher, and a proud promoter of the Igbo language. His songs were full of deep meanings, wise sayings, and moral lessons. For more than 60 years, he used his guitar and smooth voice to pass on traditional stories and values to young people.

Even though he started making music in the 1950s, many young Nigerians recently discovered his work after one of his old songs, “Ka Esi Le Onye Isi Oche”, went viral in 2024. It was used in a funny skit by comedian Brain Jotter, and soon people all over social media were dancing to his unique tune and catchy lyrics.

In 2024, the Enugu State Government named a street after him to show appreciation for his huge contribution to culture and music.

Though Mike Ejeagha is no longer with us, his legacy remains strong. His music will continue to inspire, educate, and entertain for many generations to come.

Rest on, legend. You will always be remembered.
