Nollywood actor Deyemi Okanlawon has shared his honest opinion about the EFCC’s recent crackdown on celebrities who spray money at parties. Speaking on Nollywood On Radio, the actor admitted that showing respect for the naira is important but he questioned the EFCC’s focus.
According to Deyemi, Nigeria faces much bigger problems like deep-rooted corruption and unpunished crimes by public officials. So, while he agrees that cultural habits like naira abuse should be addressed, he believes it shouldn’t be the main priority.
“We build things and don’t maintain them. It’s a cultural problem,” he said. He added that it’s hard for Nigerians to take such rules seriously when they see bigger crimes ignored.
The actor made it clear that if the EFCC consistently arrested corrupt leaders, the public would have more trust in the system and might willingly stop practices like spraying money.
His comment comes after the high-profile arrests of Bobrisky and Chief Priest Cubana, with other stars like AY and Iyabo Ojo also being questioned. Deyemi’s words hit a nerve—are we punishing entertainers while letting the real looters walk free?
