I Fired My Aunt After She Failed to Take Her Job Seriously – Tyler Perry

Hollywood filmmaker and media mogul Tyler Perry has revealed that he had to fire his own aunt after she failed to take her job seriously, despite his efforts to help her become financially stable.

Speaking during an interview on the YouTube series Den of Kings, hosted by gospel singer Kirk Franklin, Perry said he initially gave his aunt a job to empower her, instead of continuing to send her money with no accountability. However, her lack of dedication to the role eventually forced him to make a tough decision.

“I fired my aunt. She said she wanted a job. She would always call asking for money, I would send her the money,” Perry shared.

“I said, ‘Listen, I want to help you. I want to help you build this thing, not be welfare to you. So, let me give you a job.’”

But when she began skipping work and not showing commitment, Perry said he had no choice but to terminate her employment.

“Well, you gotta go,” he recalled telling her. “Because you want me to hand you the money, but you don’t want to work for it. See, that doesn’t work for me.”

Perry explained that while he believes in supporting loved ones, he draws the line at enabling dependency.

“I don’t believe in giving people things that will handicap them. That’s the worst thing you can do. I told them I wouldn’t continue to support them like that,” he added.

The filmmaker’s comments have sparked conversation online about the boundaries of helping family and the importance of accountability in personal growth.
