Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has opened up about her memorable encounter with singer Rihanna, describing the experience as unforgettable and deeply meaningful.
During a recent appearance on ETalk TV, the Mavin Records star spoke about how much Rihanna means to her, not just as an artist, but as a role model. She said meeting her idol was a dream come true—made even more special by the revelation that Rihanna is a fan of her music.
“She [Rihanna] is such an amazing person. To be honest, it [meeting her] still feels like a dream. I love her so much. People always say, ‘never meet your idols’, but I’m so glad I met mine because she’s just an amazing person. And the fact that she loves my music; I’m my favourite artist’s favourite artist,” Ayra said.
She praised the Barbadian singer’s talent and character, calling her “an amazing artist, an amazing woman, an amazing person in general; somebody to look up to.” She added that meeting Rihanna confirmed she made the right choice in picking her as a role model.
Ayra also admitted to feeling anxious around the superstar, often making lighthearted jokes to hide her nervousness.
“Being able to be around her, I usually don’t know what to do with myself. When I get nervous around her, I try to make unnecessary jokes,” she explained.
The rising Afrobeats star shared her hopes of collaborating with Rihanna in the future, saying it would be a dream come true.
