Nollywood actress Angela Okorie has publicly apologised to fellow actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie and Senator Ned Nwoko, expressing deep regret over past comments and actions she now acknowledges were hurtful and misjudged.

Her statement comes amid reports that Mercy Johnson filed a petition with the police against Okorie, accusing her of consistent cyberbullying and online attacks—an action that reportedly led to a police invitation.

In an emotional Instagram post, Angela Okorie opened up about how recent events have led her to a period of intense self-examination. She admitted that while she often responds emotionally, she now recognises the unintended harm her words may have caused.

“Hi beautiful people, these past days have been a period of intense reflection for me. Lately, having reminisced on certain events that had transpired, I can only thank God that I am alive,” she began.

Addressing her long-standing rift with Mercy Johnson, Angela said her words, though spoken from a place of pain, were still damaging.

“It’s no secret that there have been some difficult issues circulating on social media between Mercy Johnson and myself.
I am human, and when my emotions take over, I speak from the heart, often saying things directly as they come to me, especially when I felt hurt. Once I’ve expressed myself, I forget about it and move on, but I realize now that my utterances, whether uttered from a place of pain or not, were hurtful. Some events that have happened these past days made me realize that I should have done better.”

She went on to express heartfelt remorse to Mercy Johnson:

“I feel so sorry having realized how this gets to you, Mercy. Your mental health is very important now and ever & I wouldn’t wish you and your family worse. That’s not my nature, and you know it. Do find a place in your heart to forgive me.”

Okorie also spoke about feeling betrayed and attacked by others on social media, noting how bloggers and content creators had spread falsehoods about her. However, she said she chooses to forgive them all.

Turning her attention to Senator Ned Nwoko, Angela apologised for a public outburst which she said stemmed from a misunderstanding and misdirected anger.

“My sincere apology also goes to Senator Ned Nwoko. I understand that my anger in trying to make a reply didn’t find you in a good state. It was a reaction to an unprovoked bashing and attack that was blown out of proportion,” she wrote.

“I truly reacted in a way I now recognise wasn’t pleasant. I cannot intentionally disrespect you for whatever reason. To buttress this, I remember being part of your political campaign—the one you brought ZuleZoo, myself, and other artists to. I have also honored your family’s yearly children’s carnival when invited.”

Angela concluded her statement by emphasising the importance of peace over conflict and said she deeply regrets her actions.

“All these have made me realize that being at peace is better than war or fight. I deeply regret my actions and am sorry.”
