Popular social commentator Oriretan Honour has sparked intense online debate after publicly criticizing Chioma Rowland-Adeleke, wife of Nigerian music superstar Davido, for accompanying her husband to public events instead of staying home to care for their infant twins.

In a strongly worded Instagram comment, Honour accused Chioma of repeating past mistakes, referencing the tragic death of the couple’s first son, Ifeanyi, in 2022.

Chioma, it’s unwise how u’re focusing on going out with Davido instead of staying at home to care for ur twins,” Honour wrote. “Remember how Ifeanyi kpai [died] cos of this same outing with Davido & ur carelessness. Do u want same to happen to the twins?”

The post continued: “Ur mind ‘d be at rest now that u’re a wife. Work on ur insecurity issue & let Davido breath. U’ve 48hrs to apologize else… Be wise. Don’t be unwise.”

Chioma and Davido, who welcomed twins in 2023, officially tied the knot in an elaborate ceremony in June 2024 that drew high-profile guests from across the country and abroad.

Honour’s comments have been met with widespread backlash, with many social media users accusing him of being harsh and insensitive, especially given the family’s painful loss and recent celebration of marital bliss.

Supporters of Chioma argue that the couple is entitled to live freely and attend events without facing judgment or public threats.

This controversy highlights the ongoing public scrutiny surrounding Nigerian celebrities, particularly in matters involving family, motherhood, and grief.
