Linda Yaccarino has stepped down from her role as Chief Executive Officer of X, the social media platform owned by billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk.
Yaccarino, who took over the position in June 2023, announced her resignation in a post shared via X on Wednesday. While she did not disclose the reason for her departure, she expressed gratitude to Musk for the opportunity to lead the platform.
“When @elonmusk and I first spoke of his vision for X, I knew it would be the opportunity of a lifetime to carry out the extraordinary mission of this company,” she wrote.
“I’m immensely grateful to him for entrusting me with the responsibility of protecting free speech, turning the company around, and transforming X into the Everything App.”
During her tenure, X rolled out notable features, including Community Notes — a crowdsourced fact-checking tool — and revealed plans for X Money, a digital payment system.
Yaccarino’s exit comes months after Musk moved to integrate X into xAI, his artificial intelligence company.
Prior to joining X, she held a top executive role at NBCUniversal and also served on a U.S. presidential council focused on sports and nutrition.
Elon Musk, who remains chairman of X and CEO of xAI, has yet to announce a successor.
