Edet EbenShanteari Young found out her husband was abusing children at their daycare when parents began confiding their suspicions and accusations to her.
Overwhelmed and furious, she confronted him at his hotel job in Washington, D.C., where their argument escalated and she shot him. He survived, was later convicted of sexually abusing children, and sentenced to life in prison.
Shanteari pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and gun charges, receiving four years.
During the ordeal she divorced him and changed her name.
After serving most of her sentence, she’s now been released to a halfway house under supervision until December 2025.
