“I Never Truly Loved Them” – Reality Star Kody Brown Opens Up About His Past Marriages

Reality television personality Kody Brown has sparked intense reactions after laying bare his emotions regarding his past marriages. In a recent episode of Sister Wives, aired on TLC, the 56-year-old gave viewers a rare glimpse into his inner turmoil and reflections on love, regret, and the end of his plural relationships.
Kody, once married to Meri, Christine, and Janelle Brown, now remains committed only to Robyn Brown, whom he married in 2010. While speaking candidly during the episode, he admitted he lacked genuine emotional bonds with his three former wives, a realization that surfaced during their respective breakups.
“It’s not about rewriting the past,” Kody explained in a deeply personal conversation with host Sukanya Krishnan. “It’s about acknowledging where I was emotionally at the time of each split. I’d find myself thinking, ‘Maybe I never truly loved them.’ It was a defense mechanism… a way to cope with the emotional weight.”
This statement did not sit well with his ex-wife, Meri, who challenged his version of events. “I think he did love me at one point. He just doesn’t want to admit it,” she said. “It would be easier if he simply said, ‘I loved you, but things changed.’ Because that’s real—and it’s okay.”
Robyn, Kody’s current wife, also weighed in during a confessional, offering her own interpretation of his remarks. “When he says he never loved them, that’s not the Kody I knew. That sounds like pain and bitterness talking. He told me time and again that he loved them,” she said, visibly emotional.
Kody also spoke about the shift in his emotional world after marrying Robyn. Describing it as something transcendent, he said, “There’s something divine in my bond with Robyn. But instead of being celebrated, we’ve been shamed for it. It’s like we’ve been punished for finding a deeper kind of love.”
Now, Kody says he’s done apologizing for the choices he’s made. “I want peace, but I’m tired of being judged for who I love,” he added. “I’m at a point where I feel like throwing my hands in the air—I just want to be free to love Robyn without guilt.”
Christine was the first to announce her departure from the marriage in late 2021, followed by Janelle and then Meri in 2022. Each separation pushed Kody closer to Robyn, who had previously been the newcomer among his wives but has now become his only partner.
Reflecting on the complexity of love and relationships, Kody noted, “Every connection is different just like it is with friends or children. Some relationships offer comfort, others offer passion. But the truth is, some were never as deep as I once believed.”
Kody Brown’s unfiltered honesty has reignited public conversation about love, polygamy, and the emotional toll of living life on reality TV.
