Popular crossdressers, Bobrisky, James Brown, Jay Boogie and others could end up serving a 6-months jail term as crossdressing is set to be banned in Nigeria.
It was gathered that a member of the house, the bill to prohibit cross-dressing in Nigeria was introduced by a member of the House of Representatives, Umar Muda.
The bill was read aloud on the House floor on Tuesday, April 5, and it seeks to frown on cross-dressing, with the exception of persons who do it for amusement purposes.
If passed into law, cross-dressing will become an offence in the country with the exemption of those using it for entertainment.
Those found guilty are liable to be jailed for six months.
“A person engaging in cross-dressing is guilty of an offence and liable to imprisonment of 6 months or to a fine of five hundred thousand naira,” the bill says.
