American R&B star Chris Brown pleaded not guilty on Friday in a UK court to additional charges linked to an alleged nightclub fight in London last year.
Supporters of the singer, who is currently on an international tour, filled the public gallery at Southwark Crown Court in London. At the conclusion of the hearing, Brown acknowledged his fans by waving and blowing kisses. One fan shouted, “I love you Chris.”
Brown formally denied charges of assault causing actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon — a bottle — in a public place.
Currently out on £5 million ($6.7 million) bail, Brown had spent nearly a week in jail in May before his release. Police arrested him at a luxury hotel in Manchester shortly after he arrived by private jet.
Judge Tony Baumgartner had earlier approved Brown’s continued touring, which began on June 8 in Amsterdam. Under his bail terms, Brown risks forfeiting the £5 million guarantee if he fails to appear in court.
Last month, Brown also entered a not guilty plea to the more serious allegation of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.
All charges arise from the same February 19, 2023 incident at Tape, a private members’ club in Hanover Square, London, during Brown’s UK tour. Reports state the victim was hit multiple times with a bottle, then chased, punched, and kicked.
Brown appeared alongside co-defendant Omololu Akinlolu, 39, a fellow US citizen, who also pleaded not guilty to assault charges. Akinlolu previously denied attempting to cause grievous bodily harm.
Both men are scheduled to stand trial in October 2026.
