Afrobeat urban musician, Mofe Boyo has urged Nigerian music lovers to stop placing allegiance to just one artist.
The “Chance” crooner took to social media to tell afrobeat lovers not to turn Nigerian music into a football tournaments where people feel compelled to pledge loyalty to a particular team.
Saying enough of the bad energy, Mofe told music lovers to normalize enjoying music for what it is and focus on it’s positivity.
In his words; “We shouldn’t turn the Nigerian music scene (afrobeats) into a football tournament, where people feel compelled to pick sides or pledge loyalty to a particular “team.” This is why I respect individuals like Adesope, who celebrate the genre as a whole. Music is meant to be enjoyed, no matter who’s singing it. For some, it feels like a too to enjoy songs not performed by their favorite artist. But it doesn’t stop there they even drop h e comments whenever they come across those songs. This divisive mindset do not only limits us as a nation but also stifles the growth of afrobeats. If such negativity had existed during the reign of legends like 2face, D’Banj and banky w artists like Wizkid or Davido might not have had the chance to thrive. Let’s normalize enjoying music for what it is and focus on positivity. Enough of the negativity”.
