“Nigeria has finally happened to me, I am being stopped and searched simply because I have dreadlocks” – U.S Based Man Narrates His Encounter With Some Nigerian Police Men (VIDEO)

A Nigerian man based abroad has cried out online after allegedly being harassed by police officers in Nigeria just for carrying dreadlocks and refusing to pay a bribe.

According to him, he was stopped by police as they suspected him because of his dreadlocks, searched his belongings, and demanded a bribe afterwards

He said despite knowing what they wanted, he refused to oblige. The officers allegedly tried to push him into yielding to their demands, but he stood his ground and called his country’s embassy to report the incident.

Upon overhearing the embassy call, the officers had to let him go.

In his words:

“Nigeria has finally happened to me. I got stopped, my stuff is being searched. They say they’re gonna take me to the station… simply because I have dreadlocks.”

“They were flexing their power and wouldn’t let us go. They wanted a bribe. I called the embassy and, long story short, they let us go. It was clear I wasn’t going to give them money.”
