In a candid recent video that created a buzz, Beyoncé’s mother Tina Knowles expressed her fears about granddaughter Blue Ivy Carter venturing into the entertainment industry as a career choice. The 71-year-old matriarch, who is said to have played an instrumental role in helping Beyoncé start her career, said that the sacrifices of fame might be too much for the 13-year-old prodigy.

“I do not want Blue Ivy to go into entertainment; it is too much of a sacrifice,”

Knowles said in the now-viral video, which has garnered thousands of views on social media. She cited the harsh spotlight, long working hours, and loss of intimacy that normally accompany a life under the limelight. Knowles, who witnessed Beyoncé rise to international superstardom, commented on how the business can be taxing on the personal and emotional lives of people, even those who are born into it.

Blue Ivy, daughter of Beyoncé and Jay-Z, has already shown tremendous ability, with notable achievements including the BET YoungStars Award and appearances in such movies as Mufasa: The Lion King. Knowles’ comments do show a safeguarding approach, however, with Blue Ivy’s health paramount over her career as an artist. There are two schools of thought amongst fans, with some praising Knowles for keeping Blue Ivy back and others looking forward to further expansion of Blue Ivy’s fame.
