Major actor in “Sound of Music” Arthur Plummer dies at 91

Canadian-born actor Arthur Christopher Orme Plummer has passed on. The actor who acted the popular Sound of Music died in his home, Connecticut on Friday morning, 5th December.

His family confirmed the news, saying he died peacefully at home in Connecticut with his wife of 53 years, Elaine Taylor, by his side.

 

According to his manager of 46 years, Lou Pit, late Christopher was an extraordinary man.

He said,

Chris was an extraordinary man who deeply loved and respected his profession with great old fashion manners, self deprecating humor and the music of words.

“He was a national treasure who deeply relished his Canadian roots. Through his art and humanity, he touched all of our hearts and his legendary life will endure for all generations to come. He will forever be with us.”

 

Plummer defied the Nazis when he played Captain von Trapp in the Oscar-winning musical “The Sound of Music.”

 

 

He also won an Oscar in 2012 for his supporting turn in the film “Beginners,” becoming the oldest actor ever to win the Academy Award for supporting actor.

 

Other movies he starred in are:

“The Insider, 12 Monkeys, The last station, Remember, knives out, Star Trek VI:The Undiscovered Country” and “A Beautiful Mind,”. He also contributed voices for “Up,’ “An American Tale” and the “Madeline” TV series.

He died at the age of 91.
