Excerpt from the interview:

Comfort:
So, BAMS Creative officially started in 2020, but truthfully, the journey began long before then. I’ve been making shoes and doing leather crafts since I was around 10 years old.

It started out of necessity. My dad used to buy imported shoes that didn’t last long. After a few months, they’d get damaged, and he’d just pile them up. I was bothered by the waste, so I began revamping the shoes — covering them with new fabrics to make them look new and last longer. That was my first real experience with shoemaking.

Then around 15, I officially learned shoemaking, just before I went off to university.

Quality is at the heart of everything we do. My journey started because of a lack of quality in the shoes my dad bought. At BAAMS, we focus on producing high-quality, durable footwear with attention to detail.

Also, we pride ourselves on innovation. We don’t just copy designs — we create pieces that help our customers stand out. And finally, we are big on sustainability. We upcycle leather waste into other fashion accessories like bracelets, wallets, and belts. This helps us reduce leather waste while offering a wide product range.
We make leather bags for both men and women, wallets, leather bracelets, and belts. We’re constantly expanding our product line.

We source all our materials locally from markets here in Nigeria. Even when producing in bulk, we ensure everything is top quality. We don’t import; our focus is on strong, reliable local materials.

There have been challenges, definitely. Being a woman in this field can be tough, but I’ve never allowed myself to feel like a second-class participant. I focus on being strategic and excellent in my work. I believe that knowing your craft — knowing your onions — is what makes the difference. We deliver with quality and precision, so clients don’t care if I’m a woman or not.

Some clients are shocked when they find out I’m a woman. They hesitate. But I simply show them proof — testimonials, pictures, and even high-profile clients who trust us. That usually changes their minds quickly.

Comfort Badmos is more than just a shoemaker — she’s a purpose-driven visionary committed to sustainable innovation, excellence, and empowering her community. Through BAAMS Creative, she’s showing that passion and purpose, when combined, can walk a long way — in quality shoes, no less.
