#2023 Presidency#I Won’t Reject Calls By Nigerians-Tinubu

Published

on

The 2023 Presidential aspirant and National Leader of the All Progressive Congress, Bola Tinubu has stated that he will not reject calls by Nigerians to become the next president of the country.

The former Lagos State Governor stated this after a meeting with the Northern Alliance Committee in Abuja.

He said,

“I am not going to turn them down But I will still effectively and widely consult, particularly brainstorm with my friends and find a date to come out openly and tell Nigerians.”

“But the President is still in office. I don’t want to distract him from all the challenges he might face today. So, don’t muddle the political waters. Consult, make our program known to the people later. And the intention is clear. So you can keep guessing”.

You will recall that there has been concerns from some Nigerians over his Presidential bid as some feel he is too weak to take over the position. This is owing to the fact that he returned from London few months ago after spending some time there to take care of his health.

Former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, has rejected the presidential form of the All Progressives Congress purchased for him on Monday, May 9, 2022, by a group of his supporters from the north.

Former President of Nigeria, Goodluck Jonathan, has rejected the presidential form of the All Progressives Congress purchased for him on Monday, May 9, 2022, by a group of his supporters from the north.
His Media Adviser, Ikechukwu Eze, released a statement saying that Jonathan did not authorise the purchase of the form, and rather considers the group’s act ‘an insult’.

We wish to categorically state that Dr Jonathan was not aware of this bid and did not authorise it,” the statement read in part.

“We want to state that if the former President wanted to contest an election, he would make his intentions clear to the public and will not enter through the back door.”

“While we appreciate the overwhelming request by a cross-section of Nigerians, for Dr Jonathan to make himself available for the 2023 Presidential election, we wish to state, that he has not in anyway, committed himself to this request,” Eze said.

“Buying a presidential aspiration form in the name Dr Jonathan without his consent, knowing the position he had held in this country, is considered an insult to his person. The general public is therefore advised to disregard it.”

Igbo should be allowed to produce the next Nigerian president -Peter Obi

Peter Obi, the former governor of Anambra State, has stated the Igbo people should be allowed to produce Nigeria’s next president.

The presidential aspirant said this while addressing delegates and other leaders of the party at the PDP secretariat in Abeokuta, Ogun State

According to him, this will ensure fairness and equity as the region was yet to produce a President since the return of democracy to the country.

Peter Obi also stated that if he emerges as Nigerian president, he will build a better Nigeria.

In his words;

“Let me assure you that my commitment is to build a better Nigeria, my desperation is to see Nigeria better than it is today. We cannot continue the way Nigeria is today.

“What we want to say is that a nation must be built on fairness, must be built on equity, must be built on respect for each other and we in the South-East are saying we too should be allowed to serve and I assure you that that opportunity will change Nigeria.

“No country with 33 per cent unemployment and 65 per cent underemployment will survive. 60 per cent of the unemployed and underemployed are among the youths, the most productive population of the country and at their young age are doing nothing.

“Today, ours is owing to people pension, they don’t pay people gratuity. Our schools are closed, our universities have been closed now and nobody is saying anything.

There are 15 million out-of-school children, and the drug prevalence among our youths today is the highest in the world. We must change the situation.”

Published

The Federal High Court in Abuja has declared the seats of the Ebonyi State governor, David Umahi, and his deputy, Kelechi Igwe, vacant, following their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC)

The governor and his deputy defected from the PDP on whose platform they were elected into office in the 2015 and 2019 general elections to the APC.

Presiding over the court on Tuesday, March 8, Justice Inyang Ekwo held that the total number of 393, 042 votes governor Umahi secured during the March 9, 2019 governorship election in Ebonyi state, belonged to the PDP and same could not be legally transferred to the APC.

According to the court, having defected to the APC, both Umahi and his deputy, not only jettisoned the PDP, but also the votes that belonged to it. He, therefore, ordered the governor and his deputy to vacate office.

The Judge also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to receive names of candidates from the PDP to replace Messrs Umahi and Igwe.
.
.
“There is no constitutional provision that made the ballot transferrable from one party to the other. The votes in any election in Nigeria are to political parties, and not candidates,” the judge held.
