Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta test positive for coronavirus

Arsenal manager, Mikel Arteta who guided his side to a 1-0 win against West Ham on Saturday joins the list of public figures who have contracted coronavirus.

The English Football Association had recently declared that all Premier League fixtures scheduled for the weekend will hold as planned, but the news on the Arsenal manager may has forced a rethink by the FA.

The Premier League released a statement saying: “In light of Arsenal’s announcement tonight confirming that their first team coach Mikel Arteta has tested positive for COVID-19, the Premier League will convene an emergency club meeting tomorrow morning regarding future fixtures.”
Mikel Arteta has also shared his disappointment with fans: “This is really disappointing but I took the test after feeling poorly. I will be at work as soon as I’m allowed.” Arsenal’s London Colney training Centre has now been closed following the manager’s test result.

Manchester City’s Benjamin Mendy is also one of the English Premier League players that are in self isolation as he’s had signs of infection but tests results are not out yet.

Brendan Rodgers also announced earlier on Thursday that three of his players have shown signs of infection and are now in self isolation to prevent the spread of the virus.

With the recent list of public figures contracting the virus the Spanish FA had suspended the next two weeks fixtures of the La Liga, while the Italian league has suspended all fixtures until April 3rd.

Elsewhere in USA, the Major League Soccer, NBA and NCAA has also been suspended until further notice as cases of coronavirus has been rising drastically.

There’ll be more update on Mikel Arteta and the Arsenal players are likely to be quarantined.
