Nigerian footballer Chieme Martins has been confirmed dead

During the Sunday match between Nasarawa United and Katsina United in the Nigerian Professional Football League, Chieme Martins slumped after a collision with his opponent. He was immediately rushed to Dalhatu Araf Specialist in Lafia but on getting there he was already dead.

It was reported that the Nasarawa United player was put in a Peugeot 406 which was stationed in the match venue as an ambulance, the vehicle refused to start due to mechanical issues. The Nasarawa United players went on to win 3-0 against Katsina United but the players were all in tears immediately after the final whistle.

 

Shehu Dikku, the Chairman of the League Management Committee, has shared his condolences: “We commiserate with Nasarawa United and the immediate family of the late player, It is hoped that the findings of the autopsy would inform subsequent measures, if any that has not been addressed by the existing standard procedure.”

A sportscaster for Cool FM who was present in the venue had shared his frustration on social media over the inadequate medical facilities which were available at the ground.

 

According to him, there was no Medical attention on ground, and the player was rushed out of the stadium with a Press Crew Vehicle.
