The senior boys were off due to the Premier League break so the job was left for the Under-23 manager Neil Critchley to handle. Shrewsbury had a goal disallowed when the score was still goalless after VAR had reviewed there was an offside in the build up to the goal.

The deadlock was finally broken in the second half when Shrewsbury defender Shaun Williams misplaced an header into his own net. The young lads in red were really impressive despite it being the first senior game for some of the players.

Knowing that Liverpool will field a very young team, 8000 Shrewsbury fans had travelled to Anfield expecting an upset.

The total crowd were about 53,000, with the Liverpool fans turning out despite knowing they will field a young team.

The reds had not much to worry about with Shrewsbury testing the goalkeeper just once in the 90mins.

With the Captain Curtis Jones being just 19-years old and the having seven teenagers you could say Liverpool is secured for the future.

This result means that Liverpool will be facing Chelsea in the fifth round of the Fa Cup.
